As one of the Chamber’s most actively involved members, we are proud to shine the spotlight on Aegis Living on Galer for the month of May.
Tonya Perpich, Marketing Director, was recently interviewed for this feature and was asked a number of questions about Aegis Living.
Describe Aegis Living on Galer in a nutshell.
We are a 58-apartment home-assisted living and memory care for seniors who want to live as independently as possible in a safe environment. We provide low- level assisted living through end of life care including hospice. With our high level of nursing staff we are able to handle a very high level of acuity through end of life, including hospice. We also offer temporary stays (Respite Stays) and Day Stays to help support families that may be taking care of loved ones at home and need a break.
Our community, located on the top of beautiful Queen Anne, offers urban style living for seniors. Residents can walk one way to Kerry Park with the famous breathtaking city, mountain and Puget Sound views and walk the other way to enjoy shopping, restaurants and the arts. In addition to our own wonderful dining experiences for our residents and their friends and family, we also offer our Queen Bee Café open to the public offering traditional English crumpets with locally sourced products in tasty combinations for both breakfast and lunch items. All profits from Queen Bee go to named local community charities and our own internal nonprofit for line employees.
How long have you been a member of Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce?
Since 2014, when our Senior VP of Marketing did some outreach as we were coming in with two Aegis Living Communities on Queen Anne. She connected with a Queen Anne Chamber member who introduced her to everyone and as our marketing teams came onboard, we continued with being involved with the Queen Anne Chamber.
When did Aegis on Galer open? How did it get involved in the community?
We opened our sales office in June of 2015 on Queen Anne Ave North where we were located until moving to our new building in August of 2015. Our first residents moved in on September 2015 and at the end of April 2017, we were 86% full.
Our Queen Bee Café at the corner of 3rd Ave West and Galer is open to the public and 100% of the profits are given back to local charities. Local charities can apply to be considered a recipient.
You can find us as sponsors at the Queen Anne Farmer’s Market along with our sister community, Aegis of Queen Anne at Rodgers Park. We bring four of our infused water containers and promote the importance of hydration for everyone and help those with questions about assisted living and memory care and how they can support their family and loved ones.
We have been a sponsor at the Queen Anne Festival in the past where we have a booth with our hydration stations and also the Queen Anne Holiday Tree Lightening. Over the last years we have also helped the Queen Anne Food Bank and the Queen Anne Helpline.
Local residents and students partner with us for volunteer opportunities and entertainment events. We also employ a number of nursing and medical students who join our team as care managers.
Our Community Space, including our own version of a Pike Place Market, is open for local groups, organizations and associations to use for meetings and event space. We recently hosted the Queen Anne Historical Society with 60+ people for one of their monthly meetings and a hosted a local church event for the pastor’s 26 year retirement party.
We host monthly networking cocktail parties for local business, business partners, neighbors and friends, etc. as a way to bring the bigger community to our residents and to have a low key way for others to understand what Senior Living can be like. And most recently, these events have included local vendors selling their apparel, jewelry and crafts, along with our own Mercantile Store.
We work with our neighbors to throw an annual block party at 3rd & Galer with live music and food.
We partner with local businesses and experts to bring free seminars with topics of interest to the community, like “Healthy Aging,” ”How to choose a retirement community,” ”The Three Dragons: Dementia, Delirium and Depression,” “How to Keep Your Brain Healthy and Active: Tools for Clear Thinking,” “How to Plan for Long-Term Care,” and much more.
