The Chamber is proud to feature Metropolitan Market for its July Member Spotlight. Recently, our very own intrepid reporter and photographer, Kayako Mae Sareen, interviewed Store Manager Rob Ostrom, to find out a little bit more about this popular neighborhood grocery retailer in Uptown.
Metropolitan Market opened in Queen Anne in 1971, and since then, has become an award-winning grocery store with multiple locations throughout Seattle and Tacoma.
“It has always been our goal as the area's leading progressive, independent grocer, to always be the first to bring our customers the best,” said Rob. “Our specialists travel the world to find unique products of the highest quality that will satisfy even the most discriminating palate. Everything in our stores reflects this passion for food, from our knowledgeable specialist in each department, to the thousands of Good Cuisine recipes we've developed, and our culinary kiosks, where you can experience the quality foods from our stores firsthand.”
As an integral part of the Queen Anne neighborhood, Metropolitan Market has been a long-time supporter of many great causes and local nonprofit organizations. Its founder, Dick Rhodes, was instrumental in starting the Queen Anne Helpline, which is the primary recipient of the company’s donation budget.
“We also contribute tons of food to the Queen Anne Food Bank, as well as monetary support,” says Rob, adding that company donations also support many local charitable events.
In addition, Metropolitan Market sponsors the annual DebateAble event, a debate tournament involving elementary schools in Queen Anne and Magnolia; Queen Anne Little League, Queen Anne Farmers Market, and the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce, just to name a few.
Having served the Queen Anne community for 46 years, Metropolitan Market has also been a long-standing, active member of the Queen Anne Chamber.
The Uptown Metropolitan Market is located at 100 Mercer Street, in Queen Anne. Stop by and see for yourself why this neighborhood institution continues to draw rave reviews from shoppers—from its superb collection of fine food items to its amazing variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, and everything in between!
